FANTASY WINDOWS

There is something magical about the holidays in New York City. Kicking off with the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, the holidays are in full effect everywhere you look. A highlight of the season is enjoying the over the top window displays in many of New York's best loved stores. My favorite? Bergdorf Goodman. Their ingenuity is inspiring indeed. Calendar Girls

The series of windows in Bergdorf's 2008 window displays was themed Calendar Girls, with a window for every season...Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall. Compiled of luxuries all in white, they are absolutely stunning! Gorgeous fantasy at its best.

The show stopper is the final window featuring a scene of holiday celebration. It is amazing the texture that they were able to create in a sea of white. Everywhere you look, there is something happening... I absolutely love it!

A Compendium of Curiosities

Scenes inspired by MC Escher and Lewis Carroll of Alice in Wonderland fame, this year's holiday windows are the epitome of imaginative fantasy.

I could look at these for hours...talk about details! The obvious references to Alice in Wonderland are displayed in a way that blows my mind. The way the window designers have brought the childhood favorite into a fashion forward display is awe inspiring.

This modern rendition of "Through the Looking Glass" is full of art deco details. Elegant and chic to say the least. Bravo!

ANTHROPOLOGIE ADMIRATION

I’m out in the retail world often and I can appreciate a well folded polo shirt display and a rack of hangers you can actually flip through. Some stores take the shopping experience a step further however with glorious displays, and though they always have my eye, Anthropologie has really sparked my fancy this holiday season!

Puffy snow drifts created out of a chicken wire form and recycled plastic bags and tissue pulled me in from the street- is this too much of a fire hazard to do in my own house??

Once inside this little wall was a pretty touch- I don’t even remember what the product underneath it was, but I DIED when I touched these flowers to realize that they weren't ceramic at all, but instead a glorious transformation of hideous silk roses dipped in thick exterior paint!

I absolutely love this treatment. How lovely would these roses look on a great wreath or framing the doorway of a shabby chic dressing room? LOVE IT! Ahh, Anthropologie...thank you for inspiring me again!

While we were in DC working on A Salute to Our Troops, I had some time to visit the Smithsonian Museum of American History. One of my favorite exhibits was the pop culture exhibit, where I came across Dorothy’s ruby red slippers!
