Saturday evening's soiree was inspired by my trip to Tuscany this summer.
The palette was the shades of a Tuscan sunset. The flower arrangements were in rustic urns, filled with olive branches, rosemary, cabbage roses, lavender, and miniature artichokes in a deep purple.
The canvas was a wooden farm table, illuminated with clear glass candlesticks and a silk runner in a dusty rose tone.
I adore the texture that these burlap bags add to the table, on top of the gold silk napkins and rustic plates. I added the amber glass to layer in another color.
The menu...
First Course:
Warm goat cheese and pancetta salad
Second Course:
Three cheese and wilted greens crostini
Main Course:
Braised short ribs w/ tagliatelle
Dessert:
Nutella crepes w/ strawberries, vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce
There was a familiar face or two at Saturday evenings soiree, Miss Ashlina - The Decorista herself. The minute she walked in the door it was like we had known each other for years.
Now - off to put the finishing touches on the High Gloss Magazine team dinner. Don't forget to check out the launch of High Gloss tomorrow - SUPER EXCITED!!!!

BON JOUR!
Two dinner parties down and one left to go tonight! Friday night was all about France, as I said I was totally inspired by the window boxes at the Plaza Athenee.
Those iron window boxes and red flowers spilling over the top - lovely!
Fortunately, I found a very talented floral designer in Nicolette Camille. She understood my vision and ran with it, creating the sensibility of the overflowing window boxes in these black urns.
Of course, I am always trying to find a new way to personalize a tabletop, and so I perused my photographs of my trip to France and pulled together one for each guest. Then I used Be Funky to turn my photographs into watercolors and used their calligraphy tool to incorporate each guests name to create place cards.
The final product...
And, of course, we had plenty of champagne!
There was even a moment where I climbed the fire escape, just not quite as elegantly as Scarlet here, and serenaded Soho with a short version of Maria from West Side Story.
Not to mention the menu, which was delicious and compliments of Big City Chefs...
First Course:
Endive salad w/ walnuts and roquefort
Main Course:
Filet mignon w/ caramel-brandy mushroom sauce, herbed baby potatoes and asparagus
Dessert:
Chocolate Pot de creme with Whipped Cream
This afternoon, join me for our Saturday evening casual Tuscan dinner.

IT'S ALL IN THE RESOURCES
Well, the resources and the details! Yesterday I spent the day running errands for my dinner party series in New York. I have always said I am only as good as my vendors. I can select the ideal venue, the perfect flowers, and order the most amazing foods but I don't execute all of those details. It is the talent of those that actually have the products that I need to pull the entire look together. The flowers have to be quality, the food has to be made with quality ingredients, and the venue has to be staffed appropriately. So, it is many talented people coming together to create an environment that is magical.
When I threw my first dinner party in NYC I researched rental companies, delivery fees, and obviously quality and availability of product. The best rental companies will find a way to meet your needs. So, if you need something they will have a resource to get it. I found that in Broadway Party Rentals. No, this is not a paid advertisement, just simply sharing my journey yesterday through their showroom - leading me to my final designs for three tables.
I was greeted by Gail, who is fabulous, and walked into a big open space to play in...this is only half of the space...
...a wall of glassware, from colored to crystal...
...closets full of linens...
...and dishes....and more dishes...
...chargers of course...
...and more chargers...
...and one must not forget silver!
Oh, and furniture too!
And, you haven't seen it all - truly a playground if you love to design tables.
So, I've shared tonights inspiration with you, what about tomorrow's?
Our trip to Tuscany this Summer was my inspiration - there is nothing like the sun setting over the Tuscan hills of Olive gardens and vineyards.
On the blog this afternoon, an exciting giveaway, check back for details!

INSPIRATION FOR FRIDAY NIGHTS DINNER PARTY
As I said, I am throwing a few dinner parties while I am here in NYC and for each one I have to find something to inspire me so that I can design from there. I was thinking about Paris because I have been tracking my friend Will from Bright Bazaar and his recent trip to Paris. One of my favorite moments, and being in Paris there were many, was when I walked in to the courtyard at the Plaza Athenee. I remember that they were just setting the table for dinner and they allowed me to pop in to see the space. My breath was taken away, and I had tears in my eyes. Okay, I'm a bit dramatic, but I loved it. Ever since that moment I have dreamed of going back and staying there. So, for my Friday evening soiree the menu is French based and the Plaza Athenee is the perfect inspiration.
What will the flowers be? Maybe red rannuculu's?
Black lacquer chargers to represent the iron incorporated throughout the outside of the hotel.
And maybe a letter written in French to my guests...
Well, off to finish designing these soiree's!

RAMBLINGS: LAUREN RAUTER
Along the road of my career and travels, I've been extremely fortunate to meet and work with an array of incredibly talented people. Ramblings is my way of picking their brain for more insight and juicy tidbits to share with you.
Lauren Rauter is the the owner and designer of Rock Paper Scissors, a stationery boutique and custom stationery line in Franklin, Tennessee. Her shop has garnered the attention of the national media with mentions in Lucky, Country Living, and Southern Living magazines, as well as The Tennessean, Nashville's local newspaper. Lauren also writes a fun and quirky style blog named after her shop, in which she writes about her daily musings and obsessions as a business owner, designer, and wife. Originally from New Jersey, she lives in Nashville with her husband Tim and her beloved dog, Maggie. I am currently working with her because she is one of the Editors of High Gloss Magazine which launches on February 1st! Meet Lauren...
What is your greatest extravagance?
Travel. My husband and I both own businesses, so it isn't always easy to go away and cut ourselves off from the world. Giving up control and convincing myself, the world (aka Rock Paper Scissors, my paper boutique) will go on without me is something I continually have to work on internally. I've learned over the past years that a break, even for a day or two is essential to living a balanced life.
What career would you pursue if you weren’t doing what you do now?
Event Planner. I'm obsessed with the little details of parties and the special touches that guests will appreciate. When customers come in my boutique for invitations, I literally have to hold myself back not to tell them all the ideas I have for their event.
Which living person do you most admire?
My best friend, Dabney Lee Woglom. After meeting Dabney at the National Stationery Show five years ago, we have been glued at the hip (or as our husbands say, haven't shut up since). I love her design sense and aesthetic and on top of it... she is an illustrator, which is talent I don't posses but am immensely jealous of. In five years, her business has grown from a tiny home business to a successful name in the design world and I've enjoyed watching her sky rocket. In the meantime she has become the mother of the cutest triplets you've ever seen... not that being godmother to one has jaded my opinion or anything. I really don't know how she does it all... from running her company, to making her own baby food... I truly am in awe of her.
What three things can’t you live without?
This is easy... my husband, my dog and my parents. I truly believe the people in your life make you who you are. Their support, advice and lives are the foundation of who I am and who I will become... I would be nothing without them. And let's face it... my dog Maggie's unconditional love turns a frown upside down in seconds. A quick snuggle with my furry friend and the world melts away.
What is your guilty pleasure?
Cupcakes. It is no secret that cupcakes are my kryptonite and can bring me to my knees in a mere second.
What is your favorite color combination?
Oddly enough, a favorite color of mine isn't really a color at all... white! Right now, I'm loving white with any pop of color. .. white and turquoise, white and orange. There is something about a white room, couch, etc. with a little bright color accent that makes me giddy with delight.
What is the favorite room in your house, and why?
I am in love with my sunroom. While it is tucked off in a corner of the house, it is the hub of our home. It's where we watch our favorite programs, curl up and read and nap by the fire.
What is the most memorable event you’ve attended and why?
My wedding. I married my college sweetheart nearly 13 years ago and it was the best day of my life. I will never forget dress shopping with my mom, obsessing over the little details and gulping as my parents signed the contract for my big fat "Italian" wedding.
What would people be surprised to know about you?
Well, I am from New Jersey... so much to my embarrassment, my hair was sky high in high school and yes, my nails were airbrushed. But that is all behind me now, although the Jersey Shore has brought back some not very fond memories of my prom, but let's not go there.
What is your biggest pet peeve?
Superiority. I find the lack of respect for others because they are in a position beneath you, make less money, lack education or simply different than you to be extremely unattractive in a person.

NYC ENTERTAINING INSPIRATION
I flew into NYC two days ago to five degrees, and frozen over slush! It looks a little like this...
While in NYC what I have started to appreciate is being able to get in to my car to go shopping, or to run an errand. Imagine putting together three dinner parties, in the show in NYC without a car. That will be my life for the next few days. We are supposed to get 5-10 inches today! I am getting used to cabs, subways, and messenger services.
Whenever I travel out here for business, that keeps me here longer than two or three days, I actually rent an apartment. I like to feel like I am home, and I gather my friends and entertain like I would if I were really at home. As I always say it is a great way to build stronger relationships - giving back to others.
Throughout the next few days I will share my inspiration for the three tables as I move forward in the design process. Here are a few items that I have on my radar for a special soiree next week, for some fab women!

PERSONAL ACCESSORIES
Continuing on with my feature this week on the accessories that personalize our home, lets talk about what you can do with old paperback books. If you have a story to tell you can do it through old paperback books by taking the covers off and tying the pages together with string. Stack them in your favorite piece of pottery (like I did here) or a glass container. Notice, the title I chose for the top book...I added the vintage key to represent the key to our success.
My favorite part of decorating is the hunt for those personal pieces. I came across this Santos in Vancouver when I was antiquing with friends. I loved him. It represents the history of people having faith in something bigger than themselves.
This summer we went to Italy with friends and when I got home I wanted to put a few photographs that I loved in the house. I didn't want to put them in frames, but wanted to tell more of a story. So, I found an old crate and put a vignette together filled with recycled glass that resembles beach glass, and popped the coral in to represent Capri. Then I nestled in the photographs.
People that know me know I adore a good quote.
I had a vinyl cling made for the wall and then used an inexpensive frame to outline it.
Oh, and this is Mikey, although not an accessory he is super cute sitting in the window seat!
