WATCH OUT VAN GOGH!

Since I moved to San Francisco I have been inspired to finally pick up a paint brush and try my hand at working with acrylic paints.  It has been SO much fun, cathartic, and inspiring.  It is a test of my OCD and my need to have each thing in its place, and has been good for my soul.

I have to say that in class beginning on still life's was not easy or fun.  I understand you have to learn the basics, but after two classes I went to the art supply store and bought paints and a canvas, and a small easel and decided I just wanted to put some paint on the canvas without thinking - paint from my heart.  Here was the result...

I entitled this "Broken Heart in Progress," you can probably figure out the inspiration for that on your own.

My next painting was an experimentation trying to work from a one that inspired me - here's the original...

...and here's mine...in progress!

I am hoping that I will become a better painter in time and be able to create something like this:

And, maybe some day I'll be talented enough to create hand painted wall paper - this is stunning!

Can you believe that this is a watercolor wallpaper!

I do have a piece of art that I purchased and love.  It is huge and colorful...and...

...in storage.  I can't wait to get settled here in SF so I can begin to find the perfect places for all of this art.

That's so great, Kelley! Keep painting and never stop. Art is the only thing in life you have complete control over; everything else is compromised for others.

Kelley, I love that you're painting... clearly you're inspired by artists and if you've had any desire to paint, you must give it a try! you know what they say...you wouldn't have the desire if you weren't able to fulfill it!

i've always wanted to play the piano and sing... not professionally, just proficiently enough to not embarrass myself ;) i've been taking piano and singing lessons since January and have found it as cathartic as I'm sure you're finding your painting classes. it's funny how our personalities, habits and beliefs about ourselves come out in such creative pursuits.

Take care and keep on painting. I love your style.

Hi Kelley,

I live in San Francisco too and would love to know where you take your classes. I've also been wanting to learn how to paint!

Insight would be super helpful, thanks. :)

Good for you!! I took my first acrylic painting class 2 years and loved it. I also found it very hard to just let go and paint but once I did, it became one of the most enjoyable things for me to do.
BTW your paintings are GORGEOUS!!
